Dr M.Devender Reddy, Director, Dr Rama Naidu Vignana Jyothi Institute of Rural Development, Tuniki, Medak District, Telangana is a Ph.D from IIT, Kharagpur, India, and after retirement as Director, Water Technology Centre, Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (Formerly, A. P. Agricultural University), Hyderabad served as Dean, M. S. Swaminathan School of Agriculture, Centurion University, Paralakhemundi, Odisha from Nov 2016 to Aug 2024. After Completion of his studies in 1982 Joined as Scientist at CRRI, Cuttack (ICAR) and worked there till 1989. Later on, worked at ANGRAU, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jagtial as associate professor (1989 -96), PI and Head of Weed Control, (1996-01), Professor of Agronomy (2001) and PI and Head of Cropping Systems (2002-2005) Programme at Hyderabad. During 2005-06, he was Professor and Head Agronomy from June 2006 to Feb 2012 as Director, Water Technology Centre, at ANGR Agril. Univ. established the Centre, conducted research on Sustainable water resource management (Ground water), irrigation performance assessment of projects through remote sensing and GIS, micro irrigation, and development of less water consuming production systems. During 2012 to 2016, he was consultant as irrigation agronomist at AARVEE Associates, Hyderabad. He taught and guided M.Sc (Agri) and Ph.D students numbering 30 and 6 respectively. A large number of good quality papers (230) have been brought from the research work besides more than 130 papers published as newsletters, bulletins, popular articles and in proceedings.
He was nodal officer (2000-2006) of APIII irrigation and APERP of World Bank projects (Three years each) and Principal investigator of Indo-US AKI programme on sustainable water resource management, Farmers participatory action research programme of Ministry of water resources, GOI, Niche area of excellence in capacity building and research on improving water productivity in Agriculture (ICAR, New Delhi), scaling up water productivity in agriculture for livelihood’ through training and demonstrations (ICAR, New Delhi, 2007-2012) and research and demonstration under Nagarjuna sagar project command area of World Bank project. He was member of joint panel of Indian Council of Agricultural Research –Central Water Commission to deal with the problems relating to optimizing returns from investment on irrigation and Research Advisory Council of Directorate of oil seeds research, ICAR, Hyderabad. Visited institutes in USA, Thailand, Germany, Indonesia, Iran and Uganda. |
